The excitement and joy experienced when someone buys their first home and achieves their dream of homeownership is unparalleled. Similarly, moving to a larger home because you have outgrown your current one, or purchasing a vacation home, or building a new home also be rewarding experiences. However, real estate is not always the glamour and glitz that TV might lead you to believe.
The decision to buy or a sell can be difficult when it is due to a death, divorce, or job loss. And once that hard decision has been made, time is of the essence. If a homeowner needs to sell in order to be able to afford special care for a loved one, it needs to happen sooner than later. These difficult circumstances, and the implications on the lives of real people in our community, are the real reason that real estate is essential.
Thank you, Governor Little, for allowing us to continue helping people with their housing needs. While it was not “business as usual” during this time as traditional open houses were suspended and replaced with virtual options, social distancing and face masks became the norm, and REALTORS® were using lots (and we mean LOTS) of disinfectant, being able to close on in-progress transactions was absolutely crucial to the people involved. By listing real estate as essential, our REALTOR® members were able to help people in the following situations:
- A mother of two boys who lost her husband in a recent car accident. She realized she can no longer afford the home her and her children live in as there was no life insurance policy, and downsizing was the best option.
- The 80-year-old couple who just moved into a small condo to cut expenses and put their four -bedroom colonial up for sale. They lost a significant portion of their life savings in the stock market crash and must now sell their home immediately so they can live off the proceeds of the sale.
- A couple who needed to immediately move closer to a hospital that specializes in the type of care needed by their infant daughter with long-term medical needs.
- A woman who finally had the courage to leave an abusive relationship. Her priority was to get her two young children to a safe home, and she needed to move right away.
This is also why you will not hear Boise Regional REALTORS® say that, “it’s the perfect time for everyone to buy!” because the “perfect time to buy” is highly personal and dependent on the individual’s unique circumstances and interest. If you are interested in purchasing or selling, or even just interested in learning more about your options, REALTORS® are here to be your trusted real estate resource, no matter the circumstance.
