Take Action Now
The National Association of REALTORS® has issued a Call for Action for every REALTOR® across the country to contact their member of Congress and request they reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) that is set to expire on September 30, 2017.
If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to take action and urge Congress to support H.R. 2874, “The 21st Century Flood Reform Act.” Participating in this Call for Action is easy and will only take you about 30 seconds!
This is an important opportunity to show Congress the strength of our REALTOR® voice and advocacy efforts, as we unite and rally on key policy issues that impact our industry.

NAR supports H.R. 2874 because it reauthorizes the NFIP and makes a number of critical improvements, including:
- Reauthorizes NFIP for a full 5 years, avoiding the uncertainty of short term extensions and potential shutdowns
- Caps NFIP rates at $10,000 per year for property owners
- Directs FEMA to develop more granular rate tables, to ensure fewer properties are over charged by NFIP
- Sets aside $1 billion for flood mitigation assistance grants
- Increases access to private market flood insurance
Reauthorization of the NFIP will help over 5 million homeowners in 22,000 communities around the country, so it is critical Congress acts now.
