MoneyGeek (a personal finance website) analyzed data for 138 cities on factors including income, homeownership rates, young adult population, student loan burdens, and access to entertainment and dining to identify places where young adults can thrive. This analysis found that the West is largely home to the most affordable cities for those under 25, and names Boise #4 overall.
The Federal Reserve announced a half-point rate cut in September, which marked the first rate cut since March 2020. The half-point cut was larger than the quarter-point drop that was initially predicted. The move, along with further rate cuts expected this year and next, will lower borrowing costs for consumers and businesses. 30-year mortgage rates in Idaho ticked up 0.2 percentage points from October to November, landing at 7.687% on November 15th. We will continue to monitor these rates month over month to see if rates start to decline before 2024 ends.

In November, Idaho’s unemployment rate was 3.4% which was a slight improvement from October (most recent county data shown for October-all counties listed improved slightly from September).
Meta announced its Kuna Data Center is on schedule and set to open in 2025, the construction was previously paused for eight months. There will be an estimated 700,000 servers housed at the center with an estimated 100 workers. The center will be using 100% renewable energy while adding 200 megawatts of renewable energy to the state’s electrical grid.
