The National Association of REALTORS® and its state and local associations will not favor or disadvantage any member because of the amount contributed or a decision not to contribute. You may refuse to contribute without reprisal. For investors, 70% of each contribution is used by State PAC to support state and local political candidates and 30% is sent to National RPAC to support federal candidates and is charged against your limits under 52 U.S.C. 30116.
- Note 1: The Legal Review and Issues Mobilization Fund is used to support legal services for the REALTOR® organization including, but not limited to assistance in court cases and issue campaigns with potential statewide significance.
- Note 2: Your 2018 dues include a $35.00 mandatory assessment by NAR to fund a nationwide public consumer advertising campaign that includes TV network and Cable ads that highlight the value a REALTOR® brings to a transaction and stressing the importance of using a REALTOR®.
Compliance with the Tax Reform Act of 1993 requires that a portion of dues attributable to lobbying and political activities at the State and Federal levels of government be considered non-deductible for income tax purposes.
For 2018, with dues at $155 per member, NAR computes 43% or $52 to be nondeductible for income tax purposes due to NAR lobbying efforts. Please note the entire $35 Public Awareness Campaign special assessment (which is included in the $155 sum) qualifies as fully deductible. The non-deductible portion of 2018 Idaho REALTORS® State dues is $42.50. $137.50 is deductible (the $10 Legal Review Fee and $127.50 of the IR dues). For 2018, with dues at $200 per member, the full $200 for Boise Regional REALTORS® dues qualifies as fully deductible, since none of it is used for lobbying efforts.

Like any business, BRR’s operating costs aren’t immune to the market. As prices of supplies, professional services, health insurance premiums, etc., increase, so do the line items in the association’s budget. Last year, the Board of Directors adopted a policy to use a Consumer Price Index (CPI) Based Dues Formula to provide a method for evaluating our annual dues amount, in relation to the changing prices of goods and services. Using this formula, it was determined that a 2.5% increase was warranted. And while small dues increases are meant to help with annual operations, BRR is also diligent with our finances to ensure we have the resources necessary to provide you with services under all market conditions. This means building and maintaining adequate financial reserves. To that end, a minimum of 5% of dues goes directly into reserves to ensure the long-term financial stability and solvency of BRR. If you have any questions about this, please don’t hesitate to contact your BRR Treasurer Danielle Cullip or Chief Executive Officer Breanna Vanstrom. Thank you for your continued membership!
