“More Than School Supplies” Drive a Success!

SignUp Genius Image

The REALTORS® Community Foundation’s “More Than School Supplies” drive ended Wednesday, August 15th, and once again, our members astounded us with their generosity! Here are the stats:

  • There were 28 donation sites (including brokerage and affiliate offices, as well as the BRR office)
  • 15 volunteers who sorted donations
  • $100 in gift cards
  • $500 in cash
  • And a total of 2,195 donated items!

These donated items and funds will directly benefit the Boise, West Ada, and Emmett School Districts!

A special thank you to Shannan Berry and Scott Ryan who drove (and sometimes pushed) the TitleOne bus around on Wednesday, the last day of the drive, to pick up donations. Shannan also secured the Baja Fresh lunch prize for our contest to see who could secure the most donations. The Mike Brown Team at Silvercreek was the winner! Congratulations, and thank you to everyone who donated and participated in the “More Than School Supply” Drive!

REALTORS® Donate to Those Impacted by Local Tragedies

Thank you, Boise Regional REALTORS® (BRR) members, for stepping up and supporting the families hurt in the brutal attack at a child’s birthday party several weeks ago. Because of your generous donations, the REALTORS® Community Foundation was able to make a $10,000 online contribution to the International Rescue Committee (IRC). While we are still heartbroken and discouraged by this tragic event, we are grateful that our REALTOR® family was able to join together, along with a long list of other organizations and individuals, and demonstrate that our community is one that helps others in need and will not be defined by senseless acts of violence.

A very special thank you to Thayne Barrie, REALTOR® with Coldwell Banker Tomlinson Group, and First Story, the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by Hayden Homes, for each making generous contributions of $1,000. While all donations are appreciated and were matched by the foundation, these two really helped move the needle toward reaching our goal of raising $10,000.

And in honor of the injured Meridian Police Officer — who is also the husband of one of our REALTOR® members – BRR made a separate donation of $1,500 to the Fraternal Order of Police Treasure Valley Lodge Foundation/Benevolent Fund.

REALTORS® Respond to Last Weekend’s Tragedy

This fundraising campaign has ended. Thank you to everyone who donated.

Help Us Raise Funds For Families Hurt in Attack

Fellow REALTORS® and BRR Members,

By now, you’ve likely heard about the tragic attack at a child’s birthday party in Boise last weekend. This act of violence does not represent our community, and we share our deepest sympathies with everyone involved.

What does represent our community, and our members, is the willingness to help others in need.

If you prefer, you can drop by the BRR office to make your donation in person, you can do so over the phone by calling BRR at 208-376-0363. Donations made through BRR’s REALTORS® Community Foundation are tax-deductible and 100% of the money raised through this campaign will go directly to the IRC of Boise. Donations from non-members will also be matched, however, the donate online option is not available to non-members.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and for your commitment to our community.

Sincerely,

Gary Salisbury

Q2 2018 Foundation News

RCF LOGO

Thanks to the support of BRR members and the community, 2018 has been a great year so far for the REALTORS® Community Foundation! The REALTOR® Outreach Committee (ROC), and members of our ROC Task Forces have been hard at work raising funds for the foundation’s 2018 grant cycle. Still to come in 2018: volunteer opportunities and grant distributions. There are still lots of ways for you to get involved!

Raising Funds

The mission of the Foundation is to improve the quality of life in the Boise Region through housing-related projects and programs. ROC works diligently throughout the beginning of the year to raise the funds for the annual grant cycle. The two main fundraisers are the Give Back Golf Tournament – which was held at Shadow Valley Golf Course on May 30, 2018; and the Online Auction which closed on June 6, 2018.

2018 GBG and Online Auction SliderThanks to the more than 150 golfers, 48 sponsors, and the numerous volunteers who helped make the event a success! The golf tournament raised more than $23,000 for annual grants!

The Online Auction ran from May 23, 2018 – June 6, 2018, with 112 items! Thank you to all who donated items, and to those who bid! The online auction raised more than $7,300 for annual grants!

The annual grant cycle will open September 1, 2018, and applications will be accepted through September 30, 2018.

 Impacting our Community

Community Impact Grants ImageIn the past, the main ways the REALTORS® Community Foundation has provided support to the community was through the Matching Gift Program and Annual Grants. However, starting this year, and thanks to the generous support of the Boise Regional REALTORS® Board of Directors, and the Intermountain MLS Board of Directors, the foundation has introduced Community Impact Grants. These grants focus on the “improve the quality of life” aspect of the foundation’s mission and will fund organizations or projects that don’t fit into the foundation’s annual grant cycle, due to criteria or timing.

So far, the foundation has awarded three Community Impact Grants totaling $4,750! Information about grantees, funding criteria and applying for funds is available on the Community Impact Grants page.

Outreach

While grants are awesome, the foundation is about more than just providing monetary support. We like to get our hands dirty too! Earlier this month, the Paint the Town program through NeighborWorks Boise saw FIVE houses painted by REALTOR® Community Foundation teams! Thank you to our painting teams:

  • Broker’s Council of Idaho
  • Coldwell Banker Tomlinson Group
  • Epic Realty
  • Keller Williams Realty Boise / Amherst Madison
  • BRR YPN / Silvercreek Realty Group

You can see their awesome work on the BRR Facebook page.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

1.   More Than School Supplies Drive: July 9 – August 15

On behalf of the Community School programs in the Boise, Emmett, and West Ada School Districts; ROC will be collecting “life supplies” – those items not covered by most food assistance programs: toilet paper, personal hygiene products, cleaning supplies, pet food, etc.  We will also be collecting gift cards to stores like Wal-Mart or Fred Meyer, and monetary donations as well so these organizations can purchase needed items directly.

If you are interested in hosting a donation drop box in your business, please email Shari Fernandez. A ROC member will happily deliver a collection box and coordinate pick-up as your box fills-up.

2.   REALTORS® Community Foundation at the Idaho Foodbank

Join ROC on Thursday, August 9th from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. for a shift at the Idaho Foodbank!  We will be doing tasks such as; sorting donations by nutritional category, repackaging bulk food into family-sized quantities, placing stickers on unlabeled cans and even building backpack inserts.

We need committed volunteers. You can even make it a family affair and bring your kids! Volunteers as young as the age of 8 are welcome. Those 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult volunteer. Sign-up now to volunteer.

3.   Rake Up Boise

Don’t worry, there are lots of ways you can help!

Service Projects and Volunteer Opportunities

Independent Brokers Council

The REALTOR® Outreach Committee is working on coordinating service projects and volunteer opportunities. We will be participating in Paint the Town through NeighborWorks again this year, partnering teams to paint five houses. Paint the Town is Saturday, June 9th, though most of the work will be completed the week before. Let Shari Fernandez know if you or your office would like to participate.

That’s all awesome, but what’s with the new foundation name?

Hopefully, you’ve noticed that the Boise Regional REALTORS® Foundation is now the REALTORS® Community Foundation. We have the same mission: to improve the quality of life in the Boise Region through housing-related projects and grants. We are still real estate professionals giving back to our community.

When Boise Regional REALTORS® (BRR) merged with the Emmett Valley Association of REALTORS® at the end of 2017, the jurisdiction of the foundation increased to include Gem County. With the more than 4,400 BRR members located all throughout the Boise Region, we needed our name to better represent how REALTORS® are positively impacting our community through our 501(c)(3) foundation.
